Vikings Post Win Over Portland

While the Portland Panthers were spreading “dirty laundry” all over the field today, the Joelton Vikings were able to go “Panther hunting” and come up successful. Vikings now “own” the Panther’s field. If you were at the Portland Panthers versus Joelton Vikings 11/12 game today, you are well aware of what all those phrases mean.

It was a beautiful day for the Vikings' official starting game of the 2009 season. All the coaches' and players’ preparation paid off with huge dividends as the Vikings overtook the Panthers with a final score of 28-8.

It was also great to have the cheerleaders out on the field cheering on the team. They look very good this year!

Photos from today’s event can be found here.

Way to go, Vikings – what a great way to start our season!!

Preparations will begin Monday for this week's game against Ashland City next Saturday.

Directions to the Portland Game

Next week, the Vikings will face Portland at their field. Our game time is 2:00 p.m. I'm sure Coach Mike or Carla will let us know what time the boys should be there. These directions have been provided by Jolie and Carla before, but I wanted to post these on the blog in case there are those (like me!!) who won't be able to find them on the day of the game.

Directions from I-65 to Richland Park
1. Take exit 117 (Portland/Orlinda) and head towards Portland on TN 52.
2. Cross over U.S. 31-W at the four-way stop.
3. Keep going straight on TN 52. Go about 4 miles into Portland.
4. Turn left on TN 109. There is a traffic light at the intersection. There will be a McDonald's on the right before you turn.
5. Go about three blocks on TN 109. You'll see a Farmers Bank on your right. Ahead on your right is a strip shopping center with a Subway. Turn right on East McGlothlin Street. That's the road between the Farmers Bank and the strip shopping center.
6. Cross the railroad tracks. Keep going straight. The road changes names, and you are now on Wheeler Street.
7. In about two blocks, you'll see McKendree Methodist Church on your left and the Elmer Hinton Library. Turn left just after the church onto Portland Blvd. (The library will be on your right after you make the turn.)
8. The entrance to the park is about two blocks ahead on your right.

Vikings Start Season with Win Over East Robertson

Coming off a year as the Superbowl Champions, much was expected of the Joelton Vikings at the season opening Jamboree held Saturday, August 22, 2009 at East Robertson High School. Fans were not disappointed. As Coach Mike prepared the boys to go on the field, he stated, "You are the highlight of the night; everyone is watching you. You are the John Cena of football tonight." His WWE reference was not lost on a group of boys who are psyched to go to his house on Sunday for a celebratory pool party, cookout and viewing of WWE's Summer Slam where John Cena and Randy Orton go head to head for the WWE title. What more could eleven and twelve year old boys want?

Coach Mike's boys did not disappoint him on the field, walking away the winners over East Robertson with a score of 7-0 after the twenty minute exhibition. Coaches were cautious to reveal too much to rival teams who were likely there and scouting, but true Vikings fans and followers know that this team is one to watch during the 2009 season as these boys are pumped to play and primed to win. It will be a fantastic Viking season and all the fans cannot wait to watch our boys go all the way again this year.

Photos from tonight's exhibition game can be found here.

Hot! Hot! Hot!

Today's games at MBA were definitely hot! With temperatures in the high 90s, it was a fight to stay cool.

But the Vikings score a cool win against Goodpasture, with a final score of 23-0. In their next game, a mere thirty minutes later, turn about was fair play though, as the Vikings succombed to West Nashville with a final score of 0-28.

I know the Vikings were certainly hot and tired by the day's end.

Photos from these two games can be found here.

MBA Saturday, August 8, 2009

We will play at 3:15 and 4:45 saturday....the 1st game is vs. Goodpasture, but I am not sure who the 2nd game is against.

MBA is on West End just on the right past St. Thomas Hospital. If you go White Bridge Rd, you will turn left towards St. Thomas and then turn right on Vine St or the next road past Vine St. to go to either of the parking areas.

Good Luck Vikings!!

Dates to Remember

I just wanted to let everyone know that we are going to have ice cream on August 10, after practice....if you could either bring some ice cream or make some homemade ice cream for after practice that would be wonderful. We can get in the concession stand by our practice field and put it in the freezer.

We will probably be scrimmaging Goodpasture one day next week also (at Joelton) ...more details later.

On Sunday afternoon, August 23 after our Jamboree day..... Coach Mike is having a cookout /swimming at his house for the team. We will have more details and a sign up form later.

There will also be a camp out for the boys later on in the season, probably toward the end of Sept or Oct..(when it cools off some) That is always a lot of fun...we have a cookout, they ride dirt bikes, play ball and then Ms. Carla (and other moms too!) gets to go home and everyone else can stay and sleep on the hard ground in tents :) Seriously, they do have fun and anyone is welcome to stay and camp out.

Scrimmages in Donelson

What a hot, and then wet, day it was in Donelson today!! The Vikings got their first tastes of both wins and losses today, losing their first game to Bordeaux with a score of 0-26 and then following-up with a large win over Smyrna with a final score of 22-0.

The second game was held in the rain and the folks on the sidelines were either loving it (the kids) or not so impressed (the adults). All in all, though, it was a good day for Vikings fans!

Photos from today are located here.
